Baby Sleep Problems - Can Feeding Have an Effect?

First-time Mums and Dads and even parents with several kids, regularly find that their baby isn't always sleeping as well as he or she should.

Many parents try to find the reasons for the problem, hoping to find a solution. This also leaves countless parents wondering if feeding may have something to do with the problem.

The idea of this article is to explore further into the different aspects of feeding a baby and examine the effects that feeding could conceivably have on a babys sleeping routine and habits.

First, we should list the particular feeding areas that we will be considering. These are: Mixing Breast-feeding and Bottle Feedings Feeding your child to sleep What are YOU eating and may it affect your babys sleeping pattern? Could solids help your baby sleep?

Mixing Breast-feeding and Bottle Feedings

It is believed that the crossing of bottle and breast in feedings could cause sleeping problems. There are a couple of different reasons for this when you are breast-feeding your baby. With each feeding, the breast is signaling to the brain that more milk needs to be produced for the subsequent feeding. When a bottle is incorporated into feedings, this process could be affected. The breast will start to produce less milk due to the less frequent breast feedings.

Furthermore, during the times when you do breast-feed your baby, he or she will not get as full with the breast-feeding because of the reduction in milk supply. The result of this is that your baby will need feeding more frequently which will mean his or her sleep patterns will be interrupted by the need for feeding.

Feeding your child to sleep

Feeding your child until he or she goes to sleep may be causing a problem with their sleep patterns. Your baby will soon begin to realize that you feed him or her when it's time for bed. This will become something they depend on and expect. normally, this will be the situation with each waking throughout the night as well.

There are of course, techniques you can use to stop your baby from depending on feedings to fall asleep.

First, change the time or the length of time you feed your baby when nearing his or her bedtime. Doing so will gradually disconnect the association of bedtime with feeding.

Another option to try is feed your child earlier in the night instead of as a bedtime routine. When you do these things your baby will not associate eating with bedtime. This will help your baby learn to fall asleep on his own accord.

What are YOU eating and may it affect your babys sleeping pattern?

The simple answer is yes. As a breast-feeding mom*, everything that you drink or eat affects your breast milk. If you are not eating the correct amount of foods and calories each day, your breast milk is greatly affected. It is important that you eat the recommended three meals each day and most likely a few snacks in between. Your milk needs to have sufficient calories in it in order for your baby to feel pleasantly full and satisfied. If it does not, he or she will want to feed longer until he or she is full.

You need to eat healthy foods and try to eat them more frequently, as well as having plenty to drink throughout the day. This will help your milk supply, therefore benefitting your baby and his or her sleep patterns. The fuller your baby feels, the better he or she will sleep.

Will solids help your baby?

Many people believe this will help, but studies have never associated any change in those who were fed by the breast and / or bottle and those who are fed solids. This has not been proven to help the sleep patterns in babies at all. Doctors usually suggest not adding solid foods prior to six months old.

Your Baby Deserves The Best, So Send Magnetic Birth Announcements

Your Baby Deserves The Best, So Send Magnetic Birth Announcements

by ROBERT BARBER

There may be some that are cuter than others, and there are even a few out there that I wouldn't want to claim as mine, but there simply isn't such thing as a baby that makes anyone flinch when they see it and say, "Oh crimeny...that's an ugly baby!" Unless it is born with webbed feet and antlers, it's a cutie.

Who Has the Cutest Kids?

I have 3 children. They aren't babies anymore. My oldest is 28 years old, and the twins...one is 13 years old and the other is 15. (Think about that.) Anyway, the National Cute Baby Association of the Northern Hemisphere rated my children as being in the top 3 cute babies of all time. Yes, I'm the head judge at the NCBA, but I can assure you I was completely impartial.

You Can't Dislike Them

I guess my point is this: Your baby is the most loveable and adorable creature on earth. It can cry and squawk in the middle of the night and you don't mind getting up to comfort it. A baby might make a scene during a sermon in church, but still it is your favorite little person. Even when he fills his diaper with something that rivals a noxious smelling hazardous chemical that a terrorist would consider too nasty to use as a weapon, you still...well, maybe not then...but for the most part he's wonderful.

Tell The World About Your Baby

When you have a baby, you need to let all your family and friends know, too. Send a magnetic birth announcement to them. Have the supplier put a photograph of your child, or maybe one with you and your spouse holding him, on a quality magnetic announcement and mail them to everyone you know. Unlike a paper announcement or a photo printed on your inkjet printer, a magnetic announcement will last for years. They won't get tossed into a pile of junk mail on the kitchen counter. Instead, they'll find their way to the refrigerator or a computer case or a toolbox in the shop. People will see your baby on a daily basis and think of how lucky you are...unless he's filled his diaper, of course.

They're inexpensive, and just as easy to mail as a letter or conventional photograph, so why not do it up right? Send a magnetic birth announcement.

Magnet Birth Announcements for Your Baby

Birth Announcements! Everybody loves babies. Everybody! There are people that won't admit it...but they really do. Big mean looking bikers probably won't admit it, or professional wrestler types, but deep down inside they want to hold them and talk baby talk to them. Nature made babies so darned cute that you can't help but like the little creatures.

The Date Is Nearing

Now that you are about to have a baby, you need to start thinking about how you are going to announce to the world that there has been an addition to your family. Obviously you can't send a picture of the kid to anyone until after the birth, unless you decide to send a copy of an ultrasound photo. (Only kidding!) Seriously, even though you're still pregnant it doesn't mean you can't start planning on ways to tell your friends and family about your child once he/she arrives. Magnetic birth announcements are becoming the most popular method of mothers nowadays. The advantage is that a refrigerator magnet or other magnetic product is durable and is generally placed in a spot where people see it all the time. They become keepsakes and mementos of your child's birth that the recipients will enjoy for years. They will appear in the kitchen, at work, in the shop, in lockers at school, and on computer cases.

Customize It The Way You Want

With digital photography being the norm, you can take dozens...or hundreds...of photos of your newborn and pick the best one for your birth announcement. A competent company will be able to work with you on adjusting any photo so it looks great on the magnet. Make sure that the supplier you choose has staff that will assist you with designing the item. You might want to use a pre-designed magnet, but in case you don't, the company should offer the option of a unique, one of a kind magnet that you design. Whatever route you take, people are going to ooh and ahh over your baby's picture on a quality magnetic product.
